Under the harvest truck, Samantha’s dad would find her singing to herself as she shaded another face, always starting with the eyes. He would remind her “you can draw when the sun goes down, but for now there was farm work to do”. Even as a child, she was taught to have a strong work ethic. Her mother, a talented seamstress, passed on her passion for creativity to Samantha. After graduating college with a B.S., she started her real art education and spent two years as an apprentice under a local, well-known muralist, painting restaurant ceilings and private residences murals. Here she became skilled in acrylic painting, wall illusions and wall sculpting and tromp le oil murals. In 2008, she opened her own muralist business and enjoyed a variety of client-lead projects. In 2009, she had her first exhibition, “She Is “, a collection of portraits of women in different seasons of life. Her work has been featured in Ventanas (southwest magazine) and the Las Cruces Showcase of Homes. Becoming a mother in 2010 and continued to have babies until 2019, she has created pieces when time permitted until this last year, when she embraced the truth of “now or never”. In 2019, she completed four large mural projects while pregnant with her fourth son. She took 3rd place in the 2019 Ruidoso Mural contest, and her 2019 work was featured in several newspaper articles. Lady Hike, a functional clothing line of fun and bright outdoor dresses, is also one of Samantha’s creations. Here again, her love for design shines with unique clothing products from front opening underwear to sun blocking shrugs. Lady Hike opened in 2016 and the tribe continues to grow each season. Samantha is the owner and CEO, and Lady Hike has been featured in numerous online magazines, articles, podcasts and is constantly among forum topics because of its ingenuity. She and her husband, Bruce live in the mountains of beautiful southern New Mexico, with their four sons, Ocean, Forest, Rivers and Ridge.
