Rooted Bloom

My name is Daisy Cortes and I am an artist from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I received my B.A. in Art History & Studio Art from Occidental College, in Los Angeles in 2014. I have been creating since I was very small and my work travels the territories of drawing, painting, print-making, book-making, installation art, and poetry. My art is greatly influenced by my background in organic farming, and I have a deep respect for and profound curiosity about plants and other non-human relations. In my most recent works, I have been portraying “weeds” as a way to honor and raise awareness around medicinal and edible plant allies that have been persecuted and devalued. I relish the opportunity to paint a public mural in Albuquerque, because I want my art to be accessed freely by my community.
