Larry Bob works with both public and private entities producing more than a dozen large-scale outdoor paintings at sites such as Meow Wolf, 516 Arts, Field and Frame, Artisan, Humble Coffee, at Broadway and Lead, at Central and 1st, and along the train tracks as visible from the Rail Runner. I enjoy the challenge of designing for each new context and consider scale, architecture, the history of the community, as well as the motion of the viewer when formulating my designs. Murals have become such an important element of my work that I often incorporate temporary wall works into my indoor gallery exhibitions at venues such as CCA, Redline, Denver, among many others.
In New Mexico, the systems of the earth and the sky give us a clear sense of the interplay of forces that make life possible. Drawing upon traditional western landscape painting and science-fiction comics, My murals envision New Mexico as a living landscape linked to the larger universe.
These highly agitated graphic designs provide the viewer with an intense visual rush that’s meant to surprise and delight in our drab stucco surroundings. The transformation of the cities banal walls into a natural, cosmic psychedelic vision mirrors for me the translation of the physical into the metaphysical- our highest aim.
