My gouache collages are inspired by earthen forms and dynamic energies. I am fascinated by volcanoes, geysers, rivers, rainbows and meteors. I use paint and other mixed media to create scenes that evoke the motion and wonder of natural phenomenon. Landforms appear in silhouette against moody skies; the energy of eruption, flow, splatter, shine, glimmer, and gush are characterized in rainbow-like bodies that commingle and spray, drip and glow. My work has been described as “broodingly joyful” which echoes my aim to make images that depict the terrifying power and majestic humor of our planet.
My work samples illustrate an approach to image-making that I propose to produce on a mural-scale.
