    BIO
Maria Lilia Vidaca is a Mexican-American self-taught artist who was born and raised in downtown Los Angeles, CA. She was brought up surrounded by graffiti walls, Mexican stereotype racism, gang culture, and rich Mexican heritage. She never considered art as a lifestyle until she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico during her teen years. During her college years, life took an unexpected turn; homeless and a college dropout she got her first job cleaning yards then got her current position at APS. Soon afterward enrolling at Central New Mexico Community college, opened new perspectives in the art world. She had the privilege of being in two group exhibitions; Mindscapes at Factory on 5th and Catzilla at CNM/Animal Human Society. Her current media is printmaking, linocut, intaglio, etching, and monotype. Maria’s current work in progress is called El Juego de la Vida which is inspired by the Mexican game called Loteria. this work can be described as cultural pictographs for today’s generation.

    STATMENT
My work mainly revolves around empowering cultures, people and communities through symbols and images. My images can be adapted and made connections within a variety of ways.
My idea for the mural is to make a connection with the strong women in various races, and their connection to our America. I was envisioning the profile of various strong women and their internal cultural customs. Then tie them together with doddles of various New Mexican characteristics.
