Pigment Hunter & Pelwenu Collective would love to create murals in Albuquerque that express the intimate relationship between nature and culture found here. We integrate natural sources of color into our work by creating paints from earth based pigments found within the underlying bedrock geology and the soils we grow our food within.

Pigment Hunter is developing an Artist in Residence program based in Taos that is bringing the artist collective known as Pelwenu Collective from Chile to New Mexico this summer. Pigment Hunter and Pelwenu Collective will collaborate on murals, search for sources of natural color, and share knowledge on various techniques to apply earth based pigments to a variety of surfaces on walls of buildings or other urban infrastructure.

Our vision is to implement the use of natural paints on traditional adobe plaster, lime plaster, concrete and cinderblock walls, brick buildings, and on internal walls composed of other materials such as drywall to create art through the use of local materials that honors place.

Pigment Hunter & Pelwenu Collective will focus on the creation of murals made with these regionally sourced colors in the form of natural pigments from the Earth embodying a sense of place. The use of natural materials in the form of clay, minerals, and plants will be collected from around New Mexico and within the Rio Grande Basin Watershed to create site specific murals that reflect the natural and cultural environment of the Land of Enchantment.

As a passionate and creative group of artists who are focused on creating art with natural materials we would love to work with Mural Love and the collective partners whose mission is to add color and culture to the walls in Albuquerque’s public spaces. We look forward to working with you in the future.

Sincerely, Scott Sutton | Leyla Sanchez | Marco Ripetti
