I am a text-based artist, writer, translator, and educator. The majority of my projects are developed in collaboration with youth and communities, and consider the implications of public poetry and sculpted text as social intervention. My identity as a half-Cuban, half-Peruvian artist raised in New Mexico informs the themes, activism, and bilingualism present in my work. In New Mexico, I work as a collaborating artist with Friends of the Orphan Signs, have worked as a teaching artist at Working Classroom, and just completed the 2019 Story Maps Fellowship at the Santa Fe Art Institute.
I have experience with both ephemeral and permanent public installations. In designing a mural for my city, I would likely create a site-specific composition involving an overlay of text and image, responsive to the individual site and its history.
