MuraLove Portfolio Submission: Oliver May

My Name is Oliver May. I am a 16-year-old upcoming artist and muralist who is eager to get a bigger job and expand my business a little more in Albuquerque and all around the world. I take the MuraLove competition as an opportunity to expand my creative and unique view of Albuquerque and New Mexico that few would represent it with. I am passionate about the outdoors and more extreme sports like rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, etc. I try and represent the vibrancy of the mountains and the nature we have here in the Sandias as best I can through my artwork. When I cannot be in the mountains, I try and represent the same colors and feelings that come with a beautiful sunset on top of a peak or a magnificent rock climb in the Sandia foothills, of course with an added twist of creativity and flavor that comes from the creative part of my brain. Murals represent the absolute peak experience for me when doing almost any type of artwork because the closer I can get my ideas to the actual scale of the natural objects found in nature, the more of an imprint it leaves on the people who see my work. I try to include things that are empowering, scary, or blissful to people when I do artwork because it shows the part ABQ that is often not represented or called to attention. Having said this, I tried my best not to include very many cliches ABQ/New Mexico things in my murals and drawings because it is simply boring.
